ROAD SAFETY TO BE TAUGHT AS A SUBJECT IN STATE OF GUJARAT A high number of accidents involving young school children on two-wheelers has prompted an action by Gujarat government. Road safety and road manners will now be taught as part of curriculum in state schools. Gujarat transport department and education department have collectively taken up the issue. They also plan to provide road safety material to schools.

Road death toll in 2010 in Maharashtra

The number of road accidental deaths of children below 14 years in India reached 7,111 in the year 2010 according to the records of National Crime Records Bureau.
During 2010 the number of deaths on the highways in the state of Maharashtra has crossed 1,600. Before the end of 2010, the number of victims of highway accidents in Maharashtra has crossed 1,600. The number of small and big accidents on state highways is 1,950 as recorded up to the end of November 2010. Out of these 1950 accidents, 1130 were fatal claiming 1617 lives and causing 1,170 injuries.
