Safe Kids Foundation and program sponsor FedEx created Safe Kids Walk This Way program to teach safe behaviors to motorists and child pedestrians and to create safer and more walkable communities. The goal of the initiative is preventing injury to child pedestrians.

This program brings together teachers, parents, FedEx employee volunteers and safety advocates to teach students and encourage awareness of pedestrian safety and provide long term environmental improvements to make school zone and neighborhoods safe for pedestrians.

Safe Kids Foundation maintained its momentum in reaching out to its diverse target audience in spreading its message of Pedestrian Safety. During the academic year 2007-2008 Safe Kids Foundation were successful in spreading the awareness amongst 12,007 children and 375 adults.

During the academic year 2008-2009 Safe Kids Foundation reached out to 19,844 children through 57 schools and 664 children through 5 NGOs.

In 2009-2010 Safe Kids Foundation partnered with Brihan-Mumbai Mahapalika Shikshak Sabha to create awareness about pedestrian safety.

The Safe Kids Walk This Way Launch Function took place on the 29th October,2009 in New Delhi,capital of India. Safe Kids Foundation(India) had started off this process by initiating a Master Trainers' Training Program in the month of August, 2009. A total of 30 volunteers from Nehru Yuva Kendra and 8 teachers uderwent this training.

Photojournalism is an extention of the Safe Kids Walk This Way program.In 2008, Safe Kids Worldwide launched the photojournalism project to illustrate the risks children face as pedestrians.As part of a Photojournalism phase II, with funding from FedEx, Safe Kids Foundation, Mumbai arranged to make the road environment safer for the child pedestrian outside Sir J.J.Group of schools at Dr.D.N.Road, Mumbai. On April 7, 2010 a small event was organised to mark the unveiling of the project. Training  of  the Constables

Safe Kids Foundation partnered with the Mumbai Traffic Police to spread the message of safety. Safe Kids Foundation trained Road Safety Patrol’ Constables in August, 2008 on “The way of effectively communicating the message of Pedestrian Safety to children and importance of body language of the communicator.”  88 Constables participated in the session

Similar program was conducted for Road Safety Patrol’s Teachers from 5 zones of Mumbai at Traffic Police HeadQuarter.  217 Teachers participated in the session.

 

 The Traffic Police Mumbai gave COMMENDATORY NOTES to Rupa Kothari (Managing Trustee) and Anjali Burma(Program Co-ordinator) for their work in spreading awareness during the road safety week.  The award was given by the Deputy Commissioner of Police ( Traffic HQ) S S Solunke. Click here to view

During Road Safety Week i.e.1st to 7th January, 2010 an essay competition was held at Traffic Police Headquarters,the topic given was; 'Road Safety-Everyone's Responsibility'.
